Hi. I am Tony Herbert, owner of Connect to Home SDA Consultants.
As a highly experienced NDIS Support Coordinator, I specialise in working with NDIS participants and organising Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) housing. My services support NDIS participants across Victoria. I can help you by organising everything to get you moved into your new SDA home. I also assist with any concerns you may have such as managing Workcover payments and disability pensions.
Housing I work with
My service is all about getting NDIS participants into SDA housing. Think of SDA as the actual house or the bricks and mortar. It is the structure of SDA I can help you build your small steps and supports around. Sometimes it isn’t a straight line between where you are now and where you want to be. I can organise plan reviews, Short Term Accommodation (STA) and Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA) while we go on your journey into SDA. It is all about getting a less than best situation moving towards somewhere better.
Are you eligible for SDA?
SDA funding is hard to get. My service is all about understanding how they assess you and what we need to do to get you into your new home. In more words than is necessary the NDIS assesses applications against a criterion of an Extreme Functional Impairment or Very High Support Needs along with lots of personal reasoning like preferred locations, who you want to live with and how much support you need each day. I will help you understand where you sit in all of this and give you a real no cost estimation of your chances.
What I do
In simple terms I start at the beginning with you and work right through until your application for the NDIS has been approved and you have identified a new SDA to move into. I find the right specialists and make sure every bit of evidence goes into supporting your application. I can get those early conversations started with SDA builders and SIL providers. We can organise conditional offers on SDA housing you like to secure your dream home while we get your SDA funds approved. You can go to the Information page of my website or the FAQ page for more information on the steps involved and the results we will be chasing.
Rent an SDA
Renting an SDA works like this. A builder builds one. The builder finds a tenancy manager to look after it and the tenant. The tenant signs a rental agreement with negotiated terms which can include very long-time frames for the tenancy. You cannot be asked to leave without a very good reason. The NDIS pays the builder a lot of money to rent the SDA to you and make sure everything is kept in good shape. I can work with you to make sure this setup is the best it can be for you.
Buy an SDA
It is not widely known that you can use the annual funding the NDIS pays out for SDA to get a home loan to buy your SDA for keeps. Or you can build your own and get the SDA funds paid to you as the landlord. Of course, it is not that easy with the NDIS. Lots of things must fall in place like finding the right bank, setting up the loan or getting your self-built SDA registered with the NDIS. It can be a complicated and lengthy process with lots of legalities to be considered and sourcing of the right professionals. I can help steer this process to where you want it to go.
Move into an SDA
Once I help you find your dream SDA, we can make sure everything is perfect for you to move in and start living your best life. I can get the Supported Independent Living (SIL) trained up and ready to go. Think of SIL as separate from the bricks and mortar of SDA. SIL is the people who will support you with everyday tasks like getting ready for work and cooking a meal. I can also make sure every bit of Assistive Technology (AT) is in the SDA ready to go such as voice controlled devices to help you open your own doors and turn on appliances.
